Letter from the Brentford FC boardroom, 6th December 2006
Dear Supporters,
The formal interview process for the new first team manager is about to start. Some of the interviews will be held this Saturday morning (9 December), which clashes with my planned surgery, before the game with Tranmere Rovers. Given the team’s position in the league table I am sure you will support me prioritising this over meeting you.
Supporters and the press having been asking me to comment on who might be potential candidates for the position. We are aware of much media and personal speculation about who has applied or should apply for the position and whose doors we should be knocking on. The interview team have decided that we will make no comment about any individual who may or may not have applied for the position. This is to respect each applicant’s need for confidentiality even when they themselves may have spoken elsewhere on the matter. Whilst we are of course interested in supporters' views on who we should employ, this is not a decision to be taken by a majority vote of supporters.
We have a good list of applicants and an objective process set up and we anticipate finding the right person as a result. We are under no illusions as to how absolutely vital finding the right manager is at this critical stage in the Club's history.
Finally I have to say I thought your support was fantastic on Tuesday night against Doncaster Rovers, particularly given the final score. In addition the £700+ cash received, not including cheques, was a superb response on the night to the Fighting Chance Appeal (for more details visit www.fightingchance.org.uk and listen to my interview on BBC London). You really are very special supporters and I am very proud to be your representative on the Club board.
Let's work together!
Jon Gosling
