Letter from the Brentford FC boardroom, 3rd January 2007
Dear Supporters,
A happy New Year to you!
Following my short break I’m now getting back into the “groove” on all matters related to Brentford. As a result I’m starting to catch-up on my considerable backlog of correspondence. If you have written to me and I have not replied I will do so. Once again I apologise for not replying sooner.
2006 started extremely well for the first team with the excellent run of victories including knocking Sunderland out of the FA Cup. Unfortunately it slowly deteriorated culminating in the longest run without a victory in the Club’s history. Thankfully we ended that run last Saturday. I am sure like me you are hoping that victory will see us steadily improve results and move away from the relegation zone.
I would like to belatedly congratulate Scott Fitzgerald on becoming first team manager. Scott has shown great potential as Youth Team Manager developing players capable of playing in the first team. He has also improved performances on the pitch, which the board anticipate will deliver the results we all crave.
Off the pitch the year started with the Supporters’ Trust taking ownership of the Club. During the year we received substantial income from player transfers, which has kept the Club solvent in the current financial year. This only temporarily eliminates our continuing losses and the board have some very tough decisions to make in setting next financial year’s budget.
Throughout our poor run of results you supporters have been fantastic. This is really illustrated with the Fighting Chance Appeal. This now stands at a fantastic £30,000. Thank you for your contributions. If you have not contributed then please consider doing so and help our chances of staying up. If you cannot afford to contribute financially why not sell tickets for the Big New Year Draw for the Appeal fund? You can get details of the draw here.
You all could make all the difference by just selling two books of tickets for the draw. Please do so.
Let's work together!
Jon Gosling
